Hope in Love was founded in 1981 by Father Nazaire Auger, Eudist priest, and cursillistas from Gatineau-Hull, QC, Canada, with the purpose of helping couples living a natural or civil marriage after having been married in the Roman Catholic Church. The objective of the movement is to answer the desires expressed by several couples living a new union, to help in the deepening of their faith and in the search for the means capable of passing on this faith to their children.
To a large extent, Hope in Love adopted the Cursillo's technique of animation while adapting its contents. The weekends are lived separately by both members of the couple, within one or two weeks of interval. Following the weekend, the participants are invited to pursue their growth in weekly or fortnightly meetings called "evenings of hope". In small groups, they grow together in friendship and share on God's word and on their life in the Church and in the society.
Today, the Movement is spread across Canada with a French section called "Reflets et Lumière". A national team of facilitators, under the presidency of Jeannine and Raymond Lacroix from Cornwall, Ont. supports the dioceses in establishing new communities.
